Los Rock Angels

Los Rock Angels

Los Rock Angels is an American band based in Los Angeles California, that was Co-founded by Louie Mendez in 1987. Their sound is centered around the accordion combined with the rubboard “Frottoir,” an instrument that is popular in the Cajun and Zydeco genre, and the Bajo Sexto, which complements the accordion in the Norteño, Conjunto and Tejano genres. These unique instruments help give the East Los Angeles Chicano group a down home rootsy sound. Los Rock Angels play a danceable blend of Americana music. Starting with Tex-Mex/Tejano (accordion-based music of Southern Texas and Northern Mexico), Cajun and Zydeco (accordion and Rubboard based music of Southwestern Louisiana),mixed with a generous dose of Jump Blues and Rock & Roll; ultimately ending up with a Conjunto and Zydeco sound. Los Rock Angels have toured throughout the U.S., including a tour for the U.S. Military, at Naval, Marine, and Air Force bases in Japan for AKA Productions. Los Rock Angels filmed national television commercials for Taco Bell, and Miller High Life Beer. Los Rock Angels recorded the soundtrack for the Miller ad, and they were in the Touchstone Pictures film, Double Take, starring Orlando Jones, Eddie Griffin, and Garcelle Beauvais.
