“Born and raised in Minneapolis, Minnesota, ‘Frederick, the First’ burst onto the scene with his haunting but intriguing debut single, “My Keeper,” in 2020. But long before any debut as a young boy stowed away in grandma’s music room, he was captivated by any instrument in sight. By the age of 12, he had spent years with the piano, bass and guitar, laying the foundation for his abilities as a multi-instrumentalist. He has since performed in a large range of groups, artists and genres all of which have served as expositions to a diverse set of musical influences. These range from the likes of Prince, Talking Heads, and Vampire Weekend to Radiohead, D’Angelo, Frank Sinatra and many many more. Now in 2024, with a passion for music that has cascaded through his family for generations, ‘Frederick, the First’ has released four EPs blending elements of R&B, indie, funk, and jazz.
His music is characterized by signature vocal melodies and harmonies that range from ‘eery’ as exemplified in “My Keeper” to ‘ear-wormy’ as found in “Swimming on the Ceiling”. With each vocal styling infectious grooves typically underpin each record as showcased in “So Good” and “Woo Haa!”. Now based in Los Angeles, Frederick the First continues to push musical boundaries with his funky, innovative, and experimental approach. From the studio to the stage, he delivers stellar performances that leave the city of angels in awe.“
